FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rosemont, IL - April 22, 2022
The OFFPRICE Show launches “Sustainable Style”, pledging to promote circularity within the fashion industry and bring awareness to the importance of extending the life cycle of apparel, accessories, and gift products.
As a longstanding fashion marketplace, the OFFPRICE Show launched their initiative, “Sustainable Style” on Earth Day 2022. Understanding the effect fashion manufacturing has on the environment, the show announced its program.
The OFFPRICE Show has been a part of the sustainable solution for over 25 years. “Extending the lifecycle of the product IS the OFFPRICE show.” said Executive Director, Tricia Barglof. “We’re not just jumping on the bandwagon because it’s in the news. Our show offers overrun, overstock, clearance items the chance to recirculate in the economy. Although known for our lower than wholesale pricing, sustainability has always been a quiet partner of the products seen at our show. And with today’s buyer, repurposed, recycled, and secondary market goods are taking its share of the consumer’s closet.”
Take a cue from the experts. Liza Amlani, Founder of The Merchant Life, visited the OFFPRICE Show this February in Las Vegas and immediately understood the importance of our vendors to extending the lifecycle of a product.
“Traditionally, when product hits the finish line and ends up either destroyed or in the landfill, it adds to pollution and devalues the brand. Clearly a losing proposition. If we incorporate an off-price channel in the seasonal product lifecycle, then Off-price now becomes a solution for excess, aged, and out of season inventory.” The Merchant Life, Vol 29
The OFFPRICE Show is not alone in its commitment to sustainability. It’s parent company, the Tarsus Group, has a signatory pledge to produce net zero carbon events and has been implementing sustainable practices throughout all their shows.
Some of the show’s actions include reduced aisle carpet using 2nd or 3rd use carpet stock, sorting recycled materials before leaving property, and reducing use of vinyl (graphic banners) by 55%, follows the concept of the company’s “zero to landfill” ambitions.
Audrey Taylor, Global Retail Business Manager notes, “We will always face contradictions on every level of the fashion and trade show worlds, but it’s how we try to minimize impact with net neutral responses to offset the parts we can’t currently control.”
